My alarm didn't ring

Rise & Show uses Apple's AlarmKit, so alarms ring even when your iPhone is on Silent or in a Focus. If an alarm didn't ring, go through this list:

  1. Allow alarmsOpen Settings > Apps > Rise & Show and make sure alarms are allowed. If they're off, the app shows a yellow banner on its Home screen. Tap it to fix.
  2. Turn up the alarm volumeiOS plays alarms at your ringtone volume, not your media volume. Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and drag Ringtone and Alert Volume up. If headphones or a Bluetooth speaker are connected, the sound may play there instead.
  3. Keep the app installedDeleting Rise & Show also removes its alarms. If you reinstalled it, open the app and check that your alarms are listed and switched on.
  4. Charge your iPhoneA phone that is switched off or has a dead battery can't ring. Plug it in overnight.
  5. Don't disable the alarmCheck that the alarm's switch is on and the right repeat days are selected. Don't turn off the alarms permission after setting it up.
  6. Try a test alarmIn the app, open Settings > Test alarm. It rings in 10 seconds so you can hear it and try a mission.
  7. Stay up to dateMake sure you have the latest version of Rise & Show and of iOS (iOS 26 or later is required).

My object isn't recognized

The mission screen tells you which object to find. Everyday objects like a sink, fridge or front door are recognized by Apple's on-device model, which already knows what they look like. If you checked an object with the camera or took 6 photos of it in Settings > My objects, the app also compares the view with your own object. These tips help it match quickly:

  • Use good lightTurn on a room light. Low light makes matching harder.
  • Let the torch helpThe torch turns on by itself when it's too dark, and you can tap the torch button any time.
  • Show the whole thingStep back so the whole sink, door or machine is in view, and hold still for a moment.
  • Take 6 photosIf one object keeps failing in your home, open Settings > My objects, choose it and take 6 photos, ideally in the lighting you'll have in the morning.
  • Swap tricky objectsIf an object is hard to see in your home, add a different one in Settings > My objects, then delete the tricky one. You always keep at least 3.
  • Show the real thingA photo of your object on another screen won't count. You'll see "That looks like a screen."

Safety first. Any object on your list can be picked, so choose only objects you can reach safely while sleepy. Avoid anything on or past stairs, anything you'd need to climb to reach, and hot or sharp things. Turn on a light before you walk around, and never rush.

Still can't match it? After 3 minutes, a Can't find it? Solve math instead button appears. 5 math questions replace step 1, and steps 2 and 3 still follow. If camera access is off, step 1 is math automatically.

How backup alarms work

iOS always shows a Stop button for alarms on the Lock Screen, and no app can remove it. So Rise & Show schedules backup alarms together with your alarm:

  • Your alarm rings. Tap Start mission to open the app.
  • If you press Stop instead, backup alarms keep ringing again and again, for up to an hour, until all 3 steps are done.
  • If you close the app during the mission, the alarm comes back automatically and keeps ringing until the 3 steps are done.
  • Finish the 3 steps: show today's object to the camera (the mission screen names it, and after 3 minutes you can solve math instead), then complete 2 quick challenges.
  • Done. The remaining backup alarms are cancelled and you see your success screen and streak.

About 3 minutes after you finish, a gentle stay-awake check ("Still up?") makes sure you didn't go back to bed. Tap Stop to end it. It's on by default, and you can turn it off in Settings > Stay-awake check.

How to delete your data

Your data is stored on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account. The developer has no access to it, so you delete it yourself:

  1. Single alarms or objects: delete them inside the app. Deleting an object removes its image fingerprints.
  2. Everything on your iPhone: delete the Rise & Show app.
  3. Your iCloud copy: go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage (on some iOS versions, Manage Account Storage), choose Rise & Show and delete its data.

More details are in the privacy policy.

FAQ

Is Rise & Show really free?

Yes. There's no trial, no subscription, no ads, no paywall and no in-app purchases.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no account, no sign-up and no sign-in. Open the app and set an alarm. Alarms and object recognition also work offline. An internet connection is only used by iCloud to back up your data, if you're signed in to iCloud on your iPhone.

What are the 3 steps?

Every alarm needs 3 steps before it stops:

  • Step 1: show today's object. It always comes first, because it gets you out of bed. Walk to the object the mission screen names and point your camera at it.
  • Steps 2 and 3: two quick challenges, picked at random from easy math (3 sums like 15 + 13), typing a short sentence (case and punctuation don't matter) or a 3ร—3 sliding number puzzle.

Can't find the object? After 3 minutes, Can't find it? Solve math instead replaces step 1 with 5 math questions. Steps 2 and 3 still follow.

Why at least 3 objects?

Your alarm picks one of your objects at random each morning. With only one or two, you'd soon know what's coming and could plan around it. With 3 or more, you really have to get up and walk. That's why setup only continues once you've selected at least 3, as far away from your bed as possible.

You can change your list any time in Settings > My objects. The app won't let you delete below 3, so to swap one out, add the new object first.

Why a random object?

If the alarm always asked for the same thing, it would be easy to plan around it, for example by leaving it next to your bed the night before, or to get used to it. With Surprise me (the default), your alarm picks a random object from your list each morning, so you really have to get up and walk. It won't ask for the same one two days in a row.

Prefer something predictable? In the alarm editor, open Wake mission and choose one fixed object. Steps 2 and 3 are still two random challenges.

Which objects can I use?

These work instantly, with no photos, because Apple's on-device recognition already knows them: bathroom sink, toilet, shower or bath, front door, fridge, microwave and washing machine. During setup, under "What's in your home?", you select at least 3 of them, as far away from your bed as possible.

A coffee machine or something else of your own works too. Add it later in Settings > My objects and take 6 quick photos. You always keep at least 3 objects.

What if my room is dark?

The mission screen notices when it's too dark and turns on your iPhone's torch automatically. There's also a torch button you can tap any time. Switching on a room light helps most. If an object keeps failing in low light, take 6 photos of it in Settings > My objects in your morning lighting. And after 3 minutes, you can always swap step 1 for math.

Does it ring when my iPhone is on Silent or in a Focus?

Yes. Alarms are scheduled with Apple's AlarmKit, which is designed to ring through Silent mode and Focus. Make sure the ringtone and alert volume is turned up (see the checklist).

Are my camera images uploaded anywhere?

No. Recognition runs entirely on your iPhone with Apple's Vision framework. Camera frames are analyzed in memory and discarded, never stored or uploaded, and the app keeps no photos or video. For objects you set up with the camera in Settings > My objects, only numeric image fingerprints are kept: lists of numbers that can't be turned back into a picture. They're stored on your iPhone and backed up to your own private iCloud account, which the developer can't access.

Can I use it without giving camera access?

Your alarms still ring, and they still need 3 steps. Without the camera, step 1 is replaced by 5 math questions, then the 2 quick challenges follow. For the full wake-up walk, allow the camera in Settings > Apps > Rise & Show.

What if I truly can't find my object in the morning?

After 3 minutes on the mission screen, tap Can't find it? Solve math instead. 5 math questions replace step 1, then you finish the 2 quick challenges as usual. You're never locked in.

Can I snooze?

Snooze is off by default. In the alarm editor you can set it to Once (5 min). When that alarm rings, a 5 min button appears on the mission screen. You can use it once, and after that the 3 steps are the only way to stop the alarm.

Does the share card include a photo?

No. It shows things like your wake-up time and streak, never a camera photo. It's only shared if you choose to share it.

Which devices are supported?

iPhone with iOS 26 or later.
